Officials said the clinics offer expert medical consultations, mental health counselling, screenings for bone, cardiac and hormonal health, along with medicines and guidance—all under one roof.

Maharashtra has introduced the country’s first dedicated menopause clinics in government hospitals and urban health centres to support women’s physical and mental well-being during this crucial life stage, officials said.

The clinics offer comprehensive services under one roof, including expert medical consultations, mental health counselling, screenings for bone, cardiac and hormonal health, as well as medicines and lifestyle guidance.

Menopause is often seen as a sensitive and overlooked phase, during which women face physical changes, emotional stress, hormonal imbalance, bone-related issues, sleep disturbances and depression. Addressing this long-standing gap in healthcare, the state government decided to establish specialised menopause clinics exclusively for women, according to an official statement issued on Tuesday.

The initiative was launched on January 14, coinciding with Makar Sankranti, under the guidance of Minister of State for Health Meghna Bordikar.

“Menopause is not a disease but a natural phase in a woman’s life. However, women require strong physical and emotional support during this period, and these clinics have been set up to ensure they receive proper guidance, treatment and dignity,” Bordikar said.

Officials said Maharashtra has become the first state in the country to introduce such dedicated menopause clinics, an initiative expected to serve as a model for other states.

They added that the programme has received an encouraging response from women across the state, with many expressing satisfaction and appreciation for the specialised healthcare support.
