Western Disturbance to bring rain, snow, storms across North India

An intense Western Disturbance will affect large parts of north and northwest India from January 27, causing widespread rain, snowfall, thunderstorms, and hail, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The Western Himalayan region and nearby plains are expected to be significantly impacted.

Himalayan states:
Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand may see widespread rain and snow on January 27-28, with isolated heavy showers, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds up to 60 kmph. Hailstorms are also possible in these areas.

Northwest plains:
Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh may receive light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and gusty winds. West Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan are likely to face storms and strong winds on January 27; East UP may see similar conditions on January 28. Some parts of Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh could get light rain.

Fog and cold wave:
Dense fog may persist in Uttarakhand till January 27, while Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar could experience fog between January 28-31. Cold wave conditions may occur in Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh toward the end of January. Temperatures in northwest India are expected to rise 3-5°C over the next two days, followed by slight fluctuations.

Delhi NCR forecast:
Cloudy skies with light rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds are expected on January 27. Fog is likely in the mornings of January 28-29. Maximum temperatures will range 17-20°C, while minimum temperatures remain above normal.
