Thane: The Thane City Congress organised a series of programmes to mark August Kranti Day, commemorating the historic Quit India Movement. The event called for greater focus on public issues such as unemployment and rising prices, along with efforts to protect the country’s democratic values and Constitution.

Leaders recalled the significance of the Quit India Movement, launched under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi from Mumbai’s historic August Kranti Maidan on August 9, 1942. Against this historical backdrop, they emphasised the need for everyone to work together to strengthen social unity and constitutional values.

At a programme held in front of the Constitution Preamble sculpture at Court Naka, tributes were paid to freedom fighters and martyrs. The participants then collectively read the Preamble to the Constitution and took a pledge to uphold the values of equality, liberty, justice and fraternity. This was followed by a floral tribute at the statue of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar.

Thane Congress president Rahul Pingale, MP Kumar Ketkar, senior leader Subhash Kanade, state office-bearers Dr. Gajanan Desai, Rajesh Jadhav and Mohan Tiwari, state committee members Bhalchandra Mahadik, Milind Kharade and Nishikant Koli, Dharmarajya organisation’s Rajan Raje, Adv. Prabhakar Thorat, Mahendra Mhatre, Seva Dal’s Ravindra Koli, along with representatives of the Youth Congress, Mahila Congress and other party workers, attended the programme.

Remembering the sacrifices of freedom fighters, Thane Congress City District President Rahul Pingale, in his address, urged the public to come forward to confront the prevailing social and economic challenges and uphold democratic values.
