Mumbai: With the objective of protecting the lives of destitute people who are at risk on the streets during the upcoming monsoon season, SEAL Ashram has launched its “Mumbai Rescue Nite 2026” Pre-Monsoon Rescue Mission.
The mission was inaugurated by Justice K. K. Tated, Chairman of the CMAWL and former High Court Judge, at a function held at St. Paul’s Institute of Communication Education in Bandra.
The chief guest for the event was Dr. Abraham Mathai, former Vice Chairman of the Minority Commission and Chairman of Harmony Foundation.
Friends of SEAL and volunteers from various fields participated in the program, expressing their support for the humanitarian initiative.

Immediately after the inauguration, three specially equipped rescue ambulances of SEAL Ashram set out to different parts of Mumbai city. On the very first day, SEAL volunteers rescued nine individuals from the streets in and around Bandra West Railway Station and the nearby bus stand area. Among them was a woman named Lakshmi, who was found in a critically vulnerable condition. Two of the rescued individuals were suffering from severe leg wounds infested with maggots. They were immediately shifted to a hospital for emergency medical treatment, while urgent medical assistance was also arranged for the others who were in critical condition.

This humanitarian mission continues SEAL Ashram’s successful rescue initiatives carried out in previous years. In collaboration with the Navi Mumbai and Thane Police Commissionerates, SEAL Ashram rescued 140 destitute individuals during a similar mission conducted in 2024. More than half of them were successfully reunited with their families through counseling and rehabilitation efforts.

For the past 26 years, SEAL Ashram has been providing shelter, care, and rehabilitation to persons with disabilities, individuals suffering from mental illnesses, and elderly people abandoned on the streets. The Ashram currently houses around 400 residents. To date, it has successfully reunited more than 700 individuals from across India with their families and homes.
Pastor K. M. Philip, Founder and Director of SEAL Ashram, stated that the mission was launched ahead of the peak monsoon season considering the hunger, diseases, exploitation, and life-threatening conditions faced by people living on the streets during heavy rains.

Justice K. K. Tated assured his continued support and presence for SEAL Ashram’s humanitarian activities and compassionate initiatives.
Pastor K. M. Philip expressed his gratitude to all the friends, supporters, and volunteers who participated in both the inauguration ceremony and the subsequent rescue operations.
With the message, “Every rescue saves a life, and every life is precious,” SEAL Ashram has once again stepped forward this monsoon season to extend compassion and protection to the most vulnerable members of society.
