Celebrating a Literary Bridge Across Languages: New Bombay Keraliya Samajam to Honour Eminent Translator Leela Sarkar on June 14.

Mumbai: The New Bombay Keraleeya Samajam (Regd.), Nerul, is set to honour Mrs. Leela Sarkar, the acclaimed translator and recipient of both the Central Sahitya Akademi Award and the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award, for introducing Malayali readers to timeless masterpieces of Bengali literature.

The felicitation recognises her unparalleled contribution to literary translation. Having translated more than 105 renowned Bengali works into Malayalam, including the celebrated Detective Byomkesh Bakshi series, and several outstanding Malayalam works into Bengali, Leela Sarkar has built enduring bridges between languages and literary cultures.

The cultural gathering will be held on Sunday, June 14, at 5:00 PM at the Samajam Hall, Nerul. Eminent novelist Balakrishnan will formally inaugurate the event, while K. A. Kurup, President of the Samajam, will preside over the function. Distinguished personalities from the cultural world and literature enthusiasts will come together to witness this memorable occasion.

As part of the programme, noted writer and Kerala Sahitya Award recipient S. Hareesh will deliver the keynote address on the topic, “The Contribution of Translation to Malayalam Literature.” Renowned literary figure C. P. Krishnakumar will introduce the audience to the vast body of Leela Sarkar’s translated works and reflect on her remarkable literary journey. N. Sreejith will also extend his felicitations during the event.
