The Western Railway Division has announced the installation of 325 new Automatic Ticket Vending Machines (ATVMs) at various stations across Mumbai to enhance commuter convenience and reduce waiting times. This initiative complements the existing 311 ATVMs currently operational on the suburban network.
According to railway officials, the new machines will facilitate faster ticket purchases, particularly during peak hours, and support multiple payment options including UTS cards, debit/credit cards, and QR code payments. This modernization effort is aimed at improving passenger experience and streamlining operations in one of India’s busiest urban rail networks.
“By expanding the ATVM network, we aim to ensure that daily commuters can purchase tickets efficiently without enduring long queues, especially during the morning and evening rush hours,” said a Western Railway spokesperson.
The deployment of these additional ATVMs is part of a broader plan to upgrade suburban rail services, reflecting the railway’s commitment to leveraging technology for better service delivery. The new machines are expected to be operational by the end of this quarter, providing immediate benefits to millions of daily passengers.
