The Manali Winter Carnival 2026 was inaugurated today by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, marking the official start of one of the region’s biggest winter travel festivals. The carnival brings together colourful tableaux, cultural performances, and winter sports attractions that are expected to draw thousands of visitors from across India. In a major boost for the region’s tourism infrastructure, the CM also announced a ₹250 crore riverfront development project aimed at enhancing the town’s appeal as a year‑round destination.
The project will include protective flood walls, expanded parking in Old Manali, and the addition of extra rooms at the historic Circuit House to accommodate more tourists. Authorities are also prioritizing landslide prevention assistance to nearby vulnerable villages.
Officials say these improvements are part of a broader push to position Himachal Pradesh — and Manali in particular — as a global tourism hub, with new plans for eco‑tourism parks, expanded trekking routes, and enhanced connectivity including proposed heliports.
Local business owners welcomed the announcement, noting that the festival combined with the upcoming infrastructure work could significantly boost visitor numbers this season and offer a more comfortable travel experience for winter tourists.
The riverfront project is expected to begin this year, with phased development aimed at preserving the natural beauty of the Beas River while making surrounding areas more accessible and visitor‑friendly.
This year’s carnival and investment announcement come as tourism in hill states continues to rebound strongly following the pandemic, with both domestic and adventure travellers seeking fresh experiences and improved amenities.
