Dr.Raju Narayana Swamy IAS, Kerala’s Anti Corruption crusader and firebrand officer opined that Indian festivals are a time of celebration, reflection, joy and humanism. He was addressing the Onam celebrations at Crown Plaza in Bahrain organized by the  Indian Ladies Association in collaboration with the CA Chapter of Bahrain.

Pointing out that Onam is a time of celebration with captivating flower carpets, rhythmic songs and grand feasts, Dr.Swamy reminded the august audience that what we celebrate in Onam today is a tale that weaves mythology, history and cultural traditions together. It is a blend of agricultural, ritual and folk practices wrapped in stories of generosity, prosperity and unity. 

Dr.Swamy reminded the gathering of the various stories that underly Onam which is conceived as a spring festival and is celebrated during a season when the ravages of the rain are over, when nature seems  regenerated – when flowers shoot up and trees bloom. 

Onam according to him is commemoration of a mythical event, the origin of which is shrouded in the hoary past. Ms.Smitha Jensen, President,  Indian Ladies Association of Bahrain presided over the function.
