Madras High Court on Jana Nayagan Release Date Hearing Today Live News Updates: The Vijay-starrer, among the year’s most anticipated films and the actor’s final project before his formal political foray, has been entangled in legal proceedings for the past several weeks.

Thalapathy Vijay Jana Nayagan Movie Release Hearing Live Updates:
Director H Vinoth’s Vijay-led Jana Nayagan appears unlikely to release anytime soon, as a division bench of the Madras High Court, led by Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava, chose not to issue a final ruling on the film’s release date and referred the case back to the single judge who had been hearing it earlier. The bench also quashed the January 9 order by Justice PT Asha, which had instructed the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to grant the film a U/A 16+ certificate. However, the court asked the single judge to resolve the matter at the earliest, ensuring both sides get a fair chance to present their arguments.

Considered one of the most anticipated releases of the year—especially as it marks Vijay’s last film before his full-time entry into politics—Jana Nayagan was originally slated for a January 9 Pongal release. The plan was shelved after the film failed to secure CBFC clearance, and it has remained mired in legal proceedings ever since, with no immediate relief in sight.

Although a division bench of the High Court, comprising Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava and Justice G Arul Murugan, heard the case at length last Tuesday, January 20, it chose not to deliver an immediate ruling. Following arguments in an appeal filed by the CBFC against a single-judge directive to grant the film a U/A 16+ certificate, the bench reserved its order, pushing Jana Nayagan’s release into further uncertainty. The Madras High Court is expected to conclusively address the issue on Tuesday and pronounce a final verdict.

That said, another delay cannot be ruled out, as a member of the CBFC’s examining committee who watched the film has lodged a complaint, leading to the matter being referred to a revising committee. During the January 20 hearing, Additional Solicitor General ARL Sunderesan, representing the CBFC, told the court that the complaint involved concerns related to religious harmony and the armed forces, and that expert opinions might therefore be required.

Arguing for the producer, senior advocate Satish Parasaran countered these submissions, stating that the makers had moved ahead with release preparations based on a December 22 communication from the Chennai Regional Officer, which indicated that the examining committee had recommended certification. Seeking relief, Parasaran also informed the court that the producer had invested around ₹500 crore in the project.

Produced by KVN Productions, Jana Nayagan features Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Mamitha Baiju, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, and Narain in prominent roles. On Monday, January 26, filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj confirmed a cameo appearance in the film. The project boasts music by Anirudh Ravichander, cinematography by Sathyan Sooryan, and editing by Pradeep E Ragav.
