The Haryana Government has unveiled a major initiative to modernise education by setting up composite technical laboratories in government schools, aiming to promote skill‑based learning and hands-on exposure for students.

Under the programme, the Haryana Board of School Education (HBSE) will initially establish such labs in 100 government schools. These facilities will focus on artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, coding, and other digital technologies, aligning with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020’s emphasis on innovation, critical thinking, and real-world skills.

Each lab will be equipped with computers, robotics kits, and advanced learning tools, enabling students from Classes 6 to 12 to engage in practical project work and technology-integrated learning. The HBSE is also revising the curriculum for senior secondary students to incorporate structured computer education modules, including software literacy and programming fundamentals.

To ensure effective implementation, specialised teacher training programmes are being developed to strengthen educators’ technical skills and digital teaching capabilities. HBSE Chairman Professor Pawan Kumar noted that the initiative seeks to move beyond rote learning and better prepare students for careers in technology and innovation-driven sectors.

Education experts have welcomed the move, highlighting that such infrastructure and curriculum reforms are vital to bridging the digital divide in government schools and equipping students with future-ready skills. They also emphasised the importance of sustained investment in teacher training and regular updates to study materials to maximise the initiative’s impact.

The Haryana Government’s project represents a significant step towards integrating modern technology into school education and preparing students for the demands of a rapidly evolving digital economy.
