Filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj addressed long-standing rumours about tensions with actor Shahid Kapoor while attending the trailer launch of his upcoming film O Romeo on Wednesday. Speaking at the Mumbai event, Vishal dismissed speculation of a serious rift and offered his perspective on their much-discussed working relationship.
Rumours about differences between Shahid and Vishal have circulated for years. Putting them into context, the director shared a light-hearted anecdote, saying his filmmaker friends often tease him that he deserves another National Award for collaborating with Shahid on four films. However, Vishal added that people often forget that he himself is not easy to work with.
Commenting on reports of frequent clashes, Vishal acknowledged that creative disagreements do happen but said they have been exaggerated over time. He explained that while their arguments tend to grab attention, they are far fewer than portrayed. Comparing their partnership to iconic music composer duos like Laxmikant–Pyarelal and Kalyanji–Anandji, Vishal emphasised the strong bond they have built through years of collaboration.
Vishal Bhardwaj and Shahid Kapoor have delivered several notable films together, beginning with the 2009 hit Kaminey. Their collaboration continued with the critically acclaimed Haider in 2014, followed by Rangoon in 2017.
O Romeo, inspired by real-life incidents, is an action-thriller set in Mumbai’s underworld. The film stars Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri in lead roles, alongside Avinash Tiwary, Tamannaah Bhatia, Farida Jalal and Disha Patani, with Vikrant Massey making a special appearance. Produced by Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, the film is scheduled to release in theatres on February 13.
