Bangladesh cricket team captain Litton Das declined to respond to a question about the T20 World Cup 2026 controversy, stating that he does not feel it is safe for him to comment on the matter.

Bangladesh captain Litton Das sidestepped a question linked to the T20 World Cup 2026 controversy, explaining that it would not be safe for him to speak on the issue. With the tournament less than two weeks away, uncertainty continues to surround Bangladesh’s participation due to a stalemate with the International Cricket Council (ICC). The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has formally asked the ICC to relocate their fixtures from India to Sri Lanka, citing security concerns. However, the ICC has so far been unwilling to concede, and repeated discussions have failed to produce a breakthrough.

After a Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match on Tuesday, Litton was asked whether the pitches used in the league were helpful in preparing for the World Cup. The question prompted the skipper to allude to the wider uncertainty, suggesting that even the players are unsure whether Bangladesh will compete in the tournament.

“Are we even certain that we will play the World Cup? From my perspective, I don’t know—nobody knows. I think the entire country is unsure right now. I know the question you want to ask, but it’s not safe for me to answer. No comment,” Litton said.

Earlier, Bangladesh government sports adviser Asif Nazrul reiterated that the national side would not travel to India for the T20 World Cup under any circumstances, despite reports that the ICC had asked the BCB to clarify its position by January 21.

If the BCB continues to refuse participation in India for the 20-team tournament, Scotland could be brought in as a replacement based on the current rankings.

“I am not aware of Scotland being considered as a replacement. If the ICC gives in to pressure from the Indian Cricket Board and attempts to impose unreasonable terms on us, we will not accept them,” Nazrul told reporters.

“There have been instances in the past where Pakistan declined to tour India and the ICC shifted the venue. Our request is based on logical reasons, and we cannot be forced to play in India through unreasonable pressure,” he added.
